We’re happy to confirm that multiple Super Mario Kart World record holder Sami Cetin will be a big part of Play Expo, as he runs some great tournaments on the SNES classic over the course of the weekend.
Saturday’s tournament will begin with a one try qualifier time trial on the first track, kicking off in the morning and open to as many players that wish to compete until around 2pm. The top 16 fastest players will then qualify for a knockout tournament.
Sunday will see the return of Sami’s ‘Head start challenge,’ where you get the chance to race against the master on a track of your choice with a large head start (varying number of seconds for each track). Beat him to the finish line on any of them and you’ll win a prize. This challenge will be used to raise money for the Ludus Magnus charity and will cost 50p for one try, or £1 for three attempts.
Also present will be Super Mario Kart’s fastest female record holder, Leyla Hasso, who you will also have an opportunity to race against on Sunday, but without head start opportunities.
Sami will also be attempting to break some of his existing British and World records during the weekend, and Leyla Hasso will also shoot for some Women’s World Records on Super Mario Kart, so you may see history in the making!
